March 13, 2008 • Ebba Margaret Law Ebba Margaret Law, 97, of Nevis, died on Friday, March 7, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. Olson was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Duluth, the daughter of Ernest G. and Evelyn K. (Helberg) Olson. She grew up and attended school in Duluth. After meeting her husband Donald Law on April Fools Day they were united in marriage on July 7, 1941 in Selby, SD. They never had any children although they were blessed with many nieces and nephews who loved them dearly. Ebba and Don lived in Spring Lake Park for many years. In 1962 they retired to Nevis, a place they both loved. Ebba meet Marie Goble who got her to join Bethany Lutheran Church; there she made a lot of friends and also a lot of coffee and quilts over the years. Don died in 1993. Ebba talked about getting an apartment, but with a little persuasion from the neighbors and promising to help her out in time of need she remained at her home out in the country, four miles south of Nevis. There was nothing this little feisty 85-lb. woman couldn’t do on her own. She would climb ladders to put storm windows on, as heavy as those old windows were. Standing on a chair with a stool on top of that, so she could get high enough to hang her flag. My gosh, we would go running up there and ask if she needed any help, and her reply would be “Don’t you think I’m capable?, I can do it.” Her angels worked overtime keeping her safe. Like, the time the wind took her and the garage door from a swing. When she landed on the ground all she said was, “Thank goodness god caught me.” Thank goodness, one day she went through the back of the garage instead of the front door, so we could talk her out of driving her car anymore. What a woman, she brought laughter, excitement, and tears of joy to all of us. We will all miss this fine lady here on earth, and as we know she will always be with us. She always had beautiful flowers in her yard. She gave Don all the credit for bringing them back year after year. Rain, snow or heat she was always feeding the birds everyday. When the buckets of bird feed got too heavy, she used a little green wagon to pull the seeds out to the feeders. The little can of rocks still stand next to the door that she threw at the squirrels because they ate all the bird seed. She said she wasn’t a very good shot though anymore. Everyone will always remember the hats Ebba wore to church every Sunday. Every holiday there was always a different one. She even wore a Snoopy hat with goggles when she climbed up on the Harley Davidson motorcycle for a ride for her 90th birthday. When she returned all she said was “They go too slow!!” What a sense of humor she had, she was always looking for adventure in the things she did. What a positive attitude about everything. She taught her family alot too, patience, how to can foods, make jelly, how to roll lefse (which was never thin enough for her) all kinds of card games, which she played with the neighbors (thanks Sharon). She always said never to dislike, anyone because it takes too much of your energy. She always knew the right things to say, when we were feeling bad. She will be greatly missed by all of us. She was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Nevis. She also belonged to the Martha Circle at Bethany. She is survived by her two half sisters – Tressa Jackson and Lorraine Cameron both of Cranberry, TX, many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis. Pastor A.J. Kluver will be the officiant. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the Martha Circle from church.
